Older people’s publication statement 14 June 2017
Wednesday, 14 June, 2017
Today, the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 14 inspection reports on residential centres for older people.
HIQA independently monitors designated centres for older people for compliance with the Health Act (2007) Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland, 2016, to ensure that the people living in the service receive high- quality and safe care.
Three reports refer to 18-outcome inspections, six refer to 10-outcome inspections, one relates to a follow-up inspection and four reports are dementia care thematic inspections.
Evidence of good practice and compliance with the regulations and standards was found in eight centres. These inspection reports show that residents’ needs were being met in line with the National Standards and regulations.
However, six reports found evidence of non-compliance. Residents’ needs were not always being met in these six centres. Areas of non-compliance identified on inspection included government and management, safe and suitable premises, risk management, and health and social needs.
